small biz love
February is ending in quite the whirlwind! Most of the excitement for this month, in terms of my small biz, has occurred in the last 2 weeks! It’s funny how different one week or month can be from the next. If you’re part of my newsletter, you know that I will be having a pottery restock this coming Sunday, February 28th @ 3 pm pst. Expect a handful of new muglets (mugs) and planters to be in the mix! Since I am shifting my main focus back to ceramics, March will be the last month that I will offer face masks and paper goods in my shop for the foreseeable future. Get them while you can!
I have made over 50 pieces of pottery this month! This is the most pottery I have ever made in such a short amount of time. It feels AMAZING to have the ability to create at this pace! It’s a good reminder that I am doing what I should be doing and am following the right path. All my babies are in a variety of stages (drying, trimmed, bisque fired and in need of glazing, or getting their last ride in the kiln) and all unique in their own way. Some of the most recent pieces coming out of the kiln will be saved for a couple of upcoming outdoor markets I’m selling at in March!
The first outdoor pop-up market will be held next week at Next Door Craft Beer & Wine Bar in San Diego on Saturday, March 6th from 10 am - 3 pm. My friend and fellow maker, Kiera McGee, invited me to join a slough of our other talented friends, many of whom I worked with on Catalina Island. Her business, Kiera Designs, focuses on upcycling clothing and creating unique and sustainable handmade products! Check out her work on Instagram and on her website! You can head to my events page to view all the artists’ work that will be at the market.
The following weekend, I’ll be selling at Angel City Market, an outdoor market my friend and former colleague, Kenia Haro, has put together! Angel City Market will take place on Saturday, March 13th at La Feria Restaurant in Lennox from 11 am- 5 pm. This is a completely outdoor marketplace and many of the vendors featured are POC (people of color)! I’ll continue to add more details to my events page as I get more information. You can also check out their Instagram page here. Kenia also has her own shop, Pretty Girl, where she sells handmade jewelry and designer items.
My most exciting announcement this month is that I will be collaborating with the owner of Rootstock Artisan Collective, Nicole, in my hometown of Santa Cruz to create a limited collection of pottery for her shop! We connected over Instagram and finally got to meet in person when I visited my parents last weekend. I’m so stoked to be creating pottery for her store and supporting a local business in Santa Cruz. You can follow her business on Instagram or visit her website for more information about her incredible shop! Also, my pottery will be in a real shop you guys!! What?!
Lastly, I want to give a shout-out to Mariah Stockman, CEO of Mariah Stockman Creative! I met Mariah through a mutual friend at the beach in Santa Cruz! MS Creative is a marketing agency that is ALL about empowering women in small businesses. I have been taking Mariah’s monthly masterclasses and they have been stock full of incredible resources. Her next class is focused on email marketing and I can’t wait to sign up. I know I will keep finding ways to work with Mariah as my business continues to grow. She’s incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and provides the best resources to help small businesses grow in an authentic and real way. If you’re interested in hearing more about what I’ve been learning please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d love to share.
Going into March feeling extra grateful for so many talented and creative women in my life who empower and lift me up!
